Once a creditor obtains a judgment against a debtor they can begin the process of garnishing their wages and or bank accounts.  If your wages are being garnished, or you are notified that a creditor intends to garnish your bank account, filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy can stop the garnishment in most cases.
